Toying With The Dark Magicks

In the past couple of days, I’ve been toying with the dark magicks. In other words, I’ve been trying out an app for capturing video while I played DDO. I admit it, I’m not that streamy. I have a webcam. I think. Maybe built into my laptop? The point is, I’ve never used it, and considering it’s taken me this long to just try streaming and recording the sound of my voice, by the time I do use a webcam, we’ll all be holograms or something and it won’t matter. Anyway, I am entering the 21st century, and it’s really cool.

To that end, I made some movies of me playing DDO with commentary. The sound needs work, (I didn’t use a noise cancelling microphone at first.) but I got tickled on playback so I thought I’d share. You know how some DDO players put expert videos on YouTube demonstrating how they defeat dungeons with mechanical precision? It’s like that, only without the expertise and precision parts!

So here are the links on YouTube:

Are They Having a Convention? – In which I stand around in Walls of Fire a lot, mostly not those of my own casting.

Tomb of the Gynecologist – In which I demonstrate the wrong way to do certain things, like picking up quests and casting spells.

Tomb of the Psychic Friends Network – In which I go the right way despite myself.

Does He Know There’s A Server Named After Him? – In which I get overly excited about something that’s probably just Undead Bane. And I spontaneously forget what Bane is. Seriously. Maybe I need more Omega-3s?

Off to See the Wizard King – In which I run Altonia through DDO’s Wizard King quest…badly. I forgot so much stuff, it’s a wonder I remembered to finish the quest. Actually, I didn’t remember to record me finishing the quest, but I got several other embarrassing moments!

Yes, DO tell what capture software you’re using. I’ve been hoping to annotate a few chapters in the Monk guide or the blog but I’m just too cheap to buy some software. You make it look easy. :)

The vid cap software is Action!, publisher Mirillis. You can try it for free for a week.

To edit, I’ve been using Movie Maker because it came on my Windows laptop, but it’s very unstable. If I do many videos, I’ll have to look at editing alternatives.
